Treating Swollen Glands
Most swollen glands causing neck pain will be due to infection, so the key to curing the pain is to cure the infection. Antibiotics of antivirals may be prescribed if deemed necessary by a doctor, or alternative treatments can be utilized, such as high-dose vitamin C, echinacea, or elderberry. Skin infections, as well as sinus and ear infections can cause pain also, and require both time to heal, and often a little help from anti-inflammatories, or antibiotics to put things right.
The application of heat may also help to ease the pain of infection. This should be done by holding a warm scarf to the neck, or wrapping a hot water bottle in a towel and applying it for fifteen minutes or so. It is unwise to use heat sources on the bare skin as it may burn.
